OUR WINERY

WINERY SINCE
1872

The firm was founded in 1872 in the area of the Langhe hills, in Sessame (Asti), by a family of farmers, keen on the countryside and its typical products. At the beginning, they focused almost their entire wine production on Moscato. Later, during the 70's, thanks to the suitable conditions, the altitude and the general characteristics of this area, the previous owners planted the first 9 rows of Barbera. They were also diversifying the production inserting fruit trees likes Peaches, Apples, Fics and the famous Tonda Gentile hazelnut, typical of the Langhe area.

Marco Riboli, a manager working for more than 25 years in Information Technology with different international jobs, keen on nature, food and wine, fell in love with the property and bought it at the beginning of the 2000’s. His idea, since the beginning, was to focus on wine and hazelnuts leveraging the peculiarities of the territory. He continued the production of Moscato and increased the Barbera one to arrive to more than 50% of his whole output. Now, what was a “hobby”, is becoming the future of his sons Riccardo and Roberto. They have always been by his side since the very beginning; the same did his friend and wine-technician Sergio Foglino. Foglino has managed to boost Cantina Riboli’s output during the last years: the products have reached the level typical of high-level wines. Michelin-starred chefs have chosen to combine their refined dishes with Cantina Riboli’s top-range wines. UNESCO has recently acknowledged the beauty and uniqueness of the Langhe area: now it’s considered as World Heritage Site for its historical, naturalistic and cultural values, “…thanks to its aesthetic features, this area embodies the archetype of European wine-producing landscape”.

The firm’s philosophy includes three key-words: tradition, innovation and sustainability. The combination of these three elements is fundamental to obtain quality products in respect for nature, without making them lose the caracteristics of their origin land.

THE MAGIC
OF THE EARTH

OUR TERRITORY

OUR
TERRITORY

Cantina Riboli rises in Sessame, a small town in the Langhe area. This land is rich in culture and traditions, insomuch that even the famous Italian poet Cesare Pavese used to love it. Plenty of thriving woods, vineyards and hazelnut trees make this region a heaven on hearth: uncontaminated nature and human activities create a perfect combination. UNESCO has acknowledged the beauty, the amenities and the traditions of this place, insomuch that it’s now considered as World Heritage Site and it’s included in the World Heritage List.

The unique flavour of Moscato d’Asti and Barbera grapes make the small town of Sessame famous. Barbera is known for its structure, its complexity and its fruity aroma.

During the last years, low production per hectare has been gaining more and more ground, thanks to short prunings, grape cluster thinnings and defoliations. So the quality of the wide range of wines has easily become distinguishing mark of the “Made in Italy”.

Sessame is even land of white truffles, high-level gastronomic specialities and it’s land of Tonda Gentile hazelnut, used to prepare traditional dished and often matched with Moscato d’Asti wine.

All this represents only a small part of the beauty and of the landscape and cultural richness of the area where our cellar rises. We wish you’ll come here once in a lifetime and will enjoy the magnificence of this landscape.

OUR
PRODUCTION

THE SECRET OF EXCELLENCE

OUR
PRODUCTION

Our production is very precise and accurate, in respect for nature and for the traditional methods of vinification.

In order to grow our vines as best as possible, we literally take care of our vineyards and we do not use neither aggressive treatments nor chemical fertilizers. The natural grass cover inside the rows and the pruning enable the vines to feed only on natural elements. We fertilize the soil only with manure every two years.

The tasks of pruning, binding, trimming and thinning are all performed manually.

The grape harvest takes place during the fresh hours, so that the temperature for the fermentation can be low and the aromas can be preserved. Furthermore, we use small baskets for this process, so that we can take our grapes not pressed to the cellar avoiding uncontrolled fermentations.

Once the grapes arrive to our cellar, they are chosen manually: this is the only way we can discard the ruined ones. Later on, they’re processed by High-Tec machineries, in order to make a top-range product.

Together with technology and our attention, the real secret of the excellence of our products consists in the passion for our trade: we take care of every single detail.
